Parking Permit Rules Approved For Merrick LIRR Station, NUMC Lot
MERRICK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The Town of Hempstead Board has approved a measure to help residents get a parking spot at one of its busiest train stations.
As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, the parking lot at the Merrick Long Island Rail Road station will soon be restricted to residents only.

Starting on April 1, cars parked at the lot will have to display a resident parking sticker or face a fine of $120. The goal is to combat overcrowding at lots.
"With the permit or not, if you don't get here early, you're not getting a spot anyway," one driver told Xirinachs. "I get here early enough but there's times I've gotten here later and can't find a spot, period. These lots are full."
But some questioned the fine for violators.
"They want to make the money," another commuter said.
The town board also approved resident restricted parking near Nassau University Medical Center. The permit parking rules will go into effect on May 1 and violators will face a fine of $125.
