Parents, Teachers Rally Against Nassau County Executive
MINEOLA, NY (WCBS 880) - A couple hundred Nassau County teachers and parents rallied outside County Executive Ed Mangano's office on Monday morning.
LISTEN: WCBS 880 L.I. Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reports
They are against his plan to end erroneous assessment refunds to home owners.
They say it would only force the burden on the school systems, perhaps as much as $2 million a district.
"$2 million in Hicksville could mean 22 jobs," Joan Deam of the Hicksville Congress of Teachers tells WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. "That would mean psychologists, teachers, arts, music, extra-curricular activities. That's devastating."
Some parents at the rally say Mangano's plan make kids pay the ultimate price.
