2 Dead, 2 Injured In Crash On Route 4 In Paramus, N.J.
PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were killed and two others were injured early Sunday in a crash in Paramus, New Jersey.
As CBS2's Reena Roy reported, two eastbound lanes on Route 4 were still closed at Forest Avenue hours later.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's office reported two passengers in a 2001 Ford Mustang were ejected and killed when the car crashed along Route 4 East into the Bergen Town Centre mall parking lot just after 1 a.m.
Only the Mustang was involved in the crash and it appeared to have veered off the road, jumped the curb, hit a pole, and come to a stop in a parking lot, authorities said.
The women, both of Garfield, were both ejected from the vehicle, police said. One woman, 19, was dead upon police arrival, while three others – two Garfield women believed to be in their early 20s and one 23-year-old Paterson man – were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, authorities said.
One of the women was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other remained at the hospital with serious injuries late Sunday morning, authorities said. The man was treated and released.
The victims' identities had not been released late Sunday morning pending family notification.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation late Sunday, and no determination has been made about charges or traffic tickets.
