Pakistani-Americans At JFK: Killing Bin Laden 'Had To Be Done'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- People who were in Pakistan when Osama bin Laden was killed are coming back to the United States with a unique perspective.
On Tuesday, CBS 2's John Slattery spoke to people who heard the news of bin Laden's demise inside the country where it took place.
"Tremendous. Oh, tremendous news," Pakistani-American Dr. Shahid Sheikh said.
Sheikh, a cardiologist, and his wife just returned from a trip to Pakistan.
"I was just surprised it finally came to pass," Fatma Sheikh said.
They said they both believe the elimination of bin Laden was necessary.
"This had to be done, had to be brought to justice. Simple as that," Dr. Sheikh said.
Bin Laden had been hiding out in a compound in Pakistan for more than five years. Some are saying it could hurt Pakistan's image.
"Of course, it's not good," said Pakistani-American Dul Muzsal, adding when asked if the government knew bin Laden was there, "I don't know."
"The image should improve now that he's been found and hopefully Pakistan was helpful in tracking him down," Dr. Sheikh said.
As for bin Laden's claim that his strike against America was in the name of God, the people here said they don't buy it.
"I don't think that killing people in the name of God was appropriate thing. It's anti-Islamic," Dr. Sheikh said.
