Packers' Clay Matthews: Giants 'Didn't Beat Us' In Playoffs
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Giants may have topped Green Bay en route to the NFL Championship game -- and ultimately the Super Bowl title -- last season, but Packers linebacker Clay Matthews says his team flat-out beat themselves.
"We picked the most inopportune time to play our worst ball," Matthews told Yahoo! Sports. "The fact is, (the Giants) didn't beat us; we beat ourselves. We need to play our best ball when it counts. This year, I expect us to be right back where we should be."
Some would say it was an upset as the Packers, led by 2011 MVP Aaron Rodgers, went 15-1 in the regular season, compared to the Giants' 9-7 record.
"Thank you for giving us the game, Clay," defensive end Justin Tuck responded on Wednesday.
The Packers and Giants will have a rematch of their NFC Divisional Playoff game on Nov. 25 at MetLife Stadium.
"We'll see Green Bay again this year," said Tuck. "So we'll see who lays down that week."
