Long Island Park Vandalized With Swastikas; $20,000 Reward Offered
OYSTER BAY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – A Long Island park has been vandalized with symbols of hate.
Nassau County police say someone scrawled seven swastikas inside Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay.
The Anti-Semitic graffiti was discovered around 8:40 a.m. Thursday at a picnic pavilion area.
Lawmakers, religious leaders and police condemned the crime Friday and vowed to find those responsible.
"If you use paint, you use a marker, you etch, you even [use] chalk [to make] some symbol of hatred on the sidewalk, it gets reported. We discover it. We conduct an investigation. We make every effort to hold somebody accountable, whoever it is," Nassau County Police First Deputy Commissioner Kevin Smith said.
Oyster Bay Officials, Religious Leaders Speak Out On Swastika Vandalism
Police say they are pursuing several leads, but no arrests have been made so far.
A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an indictment or arrest in the case.
