Overnight No. 7 Train Service To Shut Down For 5 Weekends
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Overnight service will be shut down for five weekends this fall on the No. 7 subway line.
Starting 11:45 p.m. Friday, there will be no service between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza through 5 a.m. Monday.
The service change will also be in effect for the weekends of Oct. 18, Oct. 25, Nov. 8 and Nov. 22.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is working on a new automated signal system that will make the Flushing line more reliable, allowing trains to run faster and more often, CBS 2's Weijia Jiang reported.
Crews will also install countdown clocks at more stations along the line.
The work is part of an ongoing project that is expected to be completed in late 2016.
As an alternative, customers can take the E, F, N or Q trains and the shuttle between Grand Central Terminal and Times Square will continue to run.
