Ossining Judge Candidate Struck, Killed By Alleged Drunken Driver While Hanging Campaign Signs
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Rockland County woman was charged with driving while intoxicated on Tuesday after she struck and killed a pedestrian in Ossining, police said.
John Mangialardi, 55, of Briarcliff Manor, was apparently crossing Route 9A at around 10 p.m. when he was struck by a Nissan Altima that was traveling northbound, police said.
Mangialardi, who was a candidate for Ossining Town Justice, is believed to have been at the intersection to hang campaign signs.
Mangialardi was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Altima, Michelle Sergio, 38, of Nanuet, was charged with DWI, police said.
The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation.
Sergio was arraigned Wednesday morning in Ossining Town Court.
She is currently being held at the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
