Orchestra To Honor Rutgers Student
HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) -- An orchestra will honor the Rutgers University student who killed himself after authorities said his roommate used a webcam to spy on his tryst with a man.
Tyler Clementi was a member of the Bergen Youth Orchestra for six years and was co-concertmaster for the last two years.
Music director Eugene Minor told The Record newspaper the orchestra will dedicate its opening performance of the season Sunday to Clementi.
Minor, who called Clementi "one of the finest violinists we had in our program over the past 42 years," also said the orchestra will rename the lead violinist's chair after the 18-year-old.
Clementi's roommate, Dharun Ravi, and fellow freshman Molly Wei are charged with invasion of privacy and have withdrawn from Rutgers.
Clementi jumped to his death off the George Washington Bridge in September.
