'Operation Spring Brake' Cracks Down On Speeding In Thruway Construction Zones
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Starting Monday, local law enforcement will be cracking down on drivers in construction zones along the New York State Thruway, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.

"Operation Spring Brake" will concentrate on speed enforcement and last through Friday, May 11.
"Warmer weather brings more motorists onto the highways," said New York State Police Troop T Commander Major Robert C. Meyers. "Ensuring safety is Troop T's number one priority and we stress the importance of protecting both construction workers and motorists."
"You see the workers out there, slow down. Give them some room. You know, they have a dangerous job. Be aware that they're out there," Sgt. John Mays of the State Police's Tarrytown Barracks warned Thursday.
During last year's crackdown, over 2,000 tickets were issued.
State Police also want drivers to be on the lookout for deer. Police call this their spring "Antler Alert!" program.
"Deer are unpredictable. You don't know what they're going to do. They may be standing on the side of the road and dart out in front of you. You never know," Mays told reporters.
Sgt. Mays said you should slow down if one gets in your path. He said that swerving to avoid deer can cause an even more serious accident.
Motorists traveling on the Thruway can report an accident by calling the Thruway Authority's emergency number at 1-800-842-2233, or 911.
