One Year Later, Taconic Wrong-Way Crash Marked With Prayer
Relatives of three New York men killed a year ago in a horrific wrong way crash on the Taconic State Parkway are marking the anniversary with prayer.
The families gathered Monday for a memorial Mass in Yonkers where the men lived.
Michael Bastardi Jr., whose father and brother were killed July 26, 2009, said the families would try to get through the day and move on.
The wreck was sparked by Diane Schuler, a drunken woman carrying five children in a minivan into oncoming traffic on the Taconic north of New York City. It hit the SUV carrying the men head-on. It also killed Schuler's daughter and two nieces in the minivan.
In his sermon, the Rev. Thomas Valenti said relatives of the three men suffered shock and anguish. He said healing could take years.
