One Tank Trips: Coney Island
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - While Coney Island is within the five boroughs, some New Yorkers have yet to take advantage of the beach and amusements right in their own backyard.
WCBS 880's Alex Silverman took in the sights for the latest stop in the One Tank Trips series.
The Wonder Wheel has been an institution for as long as skyscrapers have been part of New York's skyline.

"You get a great view of New York. You also get a little roller coaster action," D.J. Vourderis told WCBS 880's Alex Silverman.
Vourderis' family has been operating Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park for nearly a century.
"World War I was still being fought when they started building this," Vourderis told Silverman. "It's our in with New York. It's what makes us who we are."
Dick Zigun brings a taste of Coney Island to places that would require more than one tank to get there.
"I play the part of the Mayor of Coney Island," Zigun told Silverman. "[At one of the] standardized, homogenized, suburbanized amusement parks."
Right under the wheel, you can find Amanda Deutch with the Coney Island History Project. The group gives walking tours of Coney Island's history.
"This is family oriented once again. Whether you're a teenager, whether you're a grandparent, whether you're a hipster or a square there's stuff do in Coney Island," Zigun told Silverman.
