One Killed, Four Injured When Boat Capsizes Off New Jersey Coast
PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A 50-year-old New Jersey man was killed and four other people were injured when their boat capsized in waters off the northern New Jersey coast.
Passing boaters called the Coast Guard around 5:40 p.m. Saturday to report that the pleasure craft was sinking off Perth Amboy, not far from Staten Island, N.Y. They also reported that some people were in the water.
Coast Guard crews, joined by New Jersey and New York City authorities, responded and learned that five people -- four males and a woman -- had been pulled from the water.
Four of the victims were treated at hospitals for minor injuries. But the other, Mario Baredales of New Brunswick, was pronounced dead shortly after being pulled from the water.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation Sunday.
