One Dollar Can Make A Difference: A New Yorker's Push To Collect $1M For Charity
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A dollar can make a difference and this holiday season one man is making a major push using that mantra to help needy New Yorkers.
Eric Briarley is spearheading what he calls a "philanthropic social challenge" to see if one million people will each give one dollar to help change the lives of the homeless, poor and hungry in the five boroughs.
"After having my 3-year-old son, I just realized that I needed to start doing something more with my life," Briarley told 1010 WINS. "I wanted to give back and show him examples of how we can do that."
Briarley is collecting the money on 46th Street between Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Times Square from 10 a.m. to midnight all week through New Year's Eve.
He launched the campaign last month but is making a special push for the end of the year.
"It's resonating with people when they hear about it, some people though are a little apprehensive because it's new so they're wondering if it's legitimate or not," Briarley said. "People as far away as Australia and the Philippines have even donated."
The money will be donated to The Bowery Mission and the Love Kitchen.
