1 Dead, 3 Others Injured In Coney Island Shooting

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One person was killed and three others were injured during a shooting in Brooklyn on Friday afternoon.

The violence happened just before 4 p.m. at the Gravesend Houses on West 33rd Street in Coney Island.

According to police, the victims included three men and a woman. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene.

Among the other victims was a 24-year-old man who was shot in the head and listed in critical condition, a 40-year-old man who was grazed in the head and treated at the scene and a 62-year-old woman who was shot in the stomach and hospitalized in critical condition.

The NYPD said a preliminary investigation determined that 29-year-old Joseph Brown entered the apartment and shot the victims. The motive is under investigation.

Witnesses told CBS 2's Derricke Dennis that the victims are members of the same family, possibly brothers and their mother.

Sources told CBS 2 that Brown knocked on the family's door Friday afternoon and asked for a man inside. He then allegedly killed that man execution style before shooting the other victims on his way out.

Authorities are now looking for Brown and released a photo of him Friday evening. He is described as 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds with long, braided hair.

Anyone with information on Brown's whereabouts is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.

The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

Authorities told local residents to take every precaution, including asking them to stay in their apartments or away from the scene.
