Officials Urge Residents In New Jersey's 'Bear Country' To Secure Trash

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - If you live in bear country out in New Jersey, you might already know this is the time of year when bears like to fatten up for winter.

The problem this year is that a lot of bears are going hungry.

"One of the problems we're having this year is that there seems to be a bit of a lack of some of the food they like out there, some of the acorns and nuts," says Larry Ragonese of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

What this means for you is that you should make sure that your garbage cans are secured and your bird feeders are protected.
