Officials: Suspect Shot By Cops After Escaping Police Custody In NJ
GARFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police shot a suspect who escaped from Garfield Police headquarters Saturday.
The suspect, a man in his late 20s, was traced to a garage location in Garfield. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center following shots fired by both Garfield Police and Bergen County Police.
The suspect was pronounced dead Saturday evening. His identity is not being released until notification of next of kin.

Two officers were also taken to hospitals for evaluation, reports 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten.
The shooting is under investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. No further details can be released at this time from the active investigation.

"From what I heard and what I have an understanding of, it wasn't no back and forth. It was actually a rapid one after the other. There were five (shots)," resident Ikeme Chukunta told CBS 2's Dave Carlin.
"Grew up here all my life. First time something like streets blocked off, tell me I got to park somewhere else. Thank God nothing happened to my family," said resident Steve Knezevic.
