Officials: Student Released Pepper Spray In Queens High School Cafeteria
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Nearly two dozen people had to be treated after a student allegedly released pepper spray inside a Queens high school cafeteria Tuesday morning.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. and involved a student from Queens Collegiate High School, which is located on the Jamaica High School campus, the Department of Education said.
EMS officials on the scene treated 22 patients, including students and adults, who reported either tightness in their chests or burning eyes, 1010 WINS reported.
Police said two students and one teacher were transported to Queens General Hospital for treatment.
The cafeteria has been aired out and the matter is under investigation.
Disciplinary action is pending, the DOE said.
Police are also investigating.
Authorities said two juvenile reports will be prepared as a result -- one for the student who allegedly purchased the pepper spray and another for the student who allegedly sprayed it, 1010 WINS reported.
