Officials Investigating Cause Of Five-Alarm Fire In Perth Amboy
PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (CBSNewyork) -- Investigators will be back on the scene Monday of a fire in Perth Amboy that left nearly 40 people homeless.
The fire started around 4 a.m. Sunday, destroying four connected homes.
No one was killed, but a couple and their baby daughter were burned and taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Authorities said that it was one of the worst fires that they had ever seen.
"With the amount of fire we had, I have not seen that amount of fire in a very long time, I've been doing this for more than 30 years," said David Volk of the Perth Amboy Fire Department.
It took 75 firefighters several hours to bring the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
