Officials Investigate Fire At Rikers Island That Left 4 Firefighters Injured
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Officials say four firefighters suffered minor injuries and 200 inmates had to be relocated after a fire broke out in an air conditioning room on Rikers Island.
Fire officials said the blaze started just after 8 p.m. last night and took three hours to bring under control. The cause remains under investigation.
Department of Correction spokeswoman Sharman Stein says there were no injuries to staff or inmates.
The displaced prisoners have been moved to other cells in the same complex.
