Officer Glenn Estrada, Partner Of Slain NYPD Cop, To Be Promoted
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The partner of a slain NYPD officer is set to be promoted in a ceremony on Friday.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly is expected to promote Officer Glenn Estrada to detective.
Officer Peter Figoski was shot and killed while he and Estrada were responding to a robbery at an apartment in Cypress Hill last week.
Kelly had praised Estrada for chasing and arresting accused gunman Lamont Pride.
"I want to commend Officer Estrada, who had the presence of mind to focus on the man with the gun, and the courage to chase him down and capture him," Kelly said.
Pride and four other men have been charged with murder for shooting Figoski.
Meanwhile, donations to the Peter Figoski Scholarship Fund set up to help his four daughters have reached more than $1 million.
