Off-Duty Police Lieutenant, Captain Charged Separately With DWI
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An off-duty police lieutenant and captain were arrested separately on drunken driving charges overnight Wednesday into Thursday.
A few minutes before midnight Wednesday night, NYPD Lt. Ronald Anderson, 49, was arrested at Richmond and Platinum avenues in the Heartland Village section of Staten Island, police said.
Anderson was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a breath test, police said.
Police did not provide further details. But the New York Daily News reported police came after Anderson allegedly struck into a 2011 Honda and a 2008 Jeep with his 2014 Jeep Wrangler. Anderson allegedly told officers he was driving home and fell asleep at the wheel, the newspaper reported.
Around 1:45 a.m. Thursday, NYPD Capt. Roberto Cruz, 38, was arrested at Jewel Avenue and the Grand Central Parkway, near Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, police said.
Cruz was also charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a breath test, police said.
The newspaper reported that Cruz was allegedly driving a 2014 Ford sedan and rear-ended a 2010 Jeep truck, prompting police to come to the scene.
