Ocean Parkway Repairs Nearly Complete On Long Island
WANTAGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - There is more good news to report on Long Island's recovery from superstorm Sandy.
Repairs to five miles of hurricane-damaged dunes and two miles of ruined roadway will be finished along Ocean Parkway by this Wednesday, the deadline date for completion.
It guarantees nearly 100 percent federal reimbursement and that the beautiful south shore beaches at Robert Moses State Park will be open for the Memorial Day weekend.

For Captree fishing boat operator Dan, that's a relief.
"Oh tremendous. People realize that the parks are all open and easy access, which is very good," he said, noting that it has been hard to get there until now. "It's great. Looking forward to it. That way people can get back to their normal routine."
This reconstruction project costs more than $35 million and because it will be finished by the deadline date, the state will pay only about $3 million.
