Tweeter Behind Alleged Occupy Threat Against NYPD Speaks Out

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York City police are investigating what they say is an online threat made against police officers by an apparent Occupy protester following a clash at Zuccotti Park.

Police spokesman Paul Browne confirmed Sunday that the department was seeking a subpoena to identify the person.

Eileen Lehpamer of 1010 WINS spoke to the man who tweeted "we won't make difference if we don't kill a cop or two" Saturday night.

The individual lives in Florida and says he's "military." He says he is a supporter of the Occupy movement, but has never been to New York.

He doesn't deny making the comments but tells 1010 WINS it's not what he meant. He claims the tweet was part of an ongoing chat that he was having while watching the u-stream video from Zucotti Park.

"I don't support that. I've never told anyone 'Why don't you go kill a cop today?' I've never said that once. I never will support that," he said.

"This was on an Occupy Wall Street discussion," Browne said.

WCBS 880's Catherine Cioffi reports the NYPD is also looking into two phone calls made to police and their families that they say were threatening.

"Similar motivations apparently," Browne added.

Hundreds of protesters had returned to Zuccotti Park near Wall Street on Saturday to mark the six months that have passed since the movement began.

Authorities say 73 people were detained. It was unclear how many were still in custody Sunday.
