Obama OKs Federal Funds For Suffolk County Snowstorm Costs
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County communities that sustained damage in a big February blizzard are now eligible for federal disaster relief.
President Barack Obama issued the declaration on Tuesday.
The storm hit at rush hour Feb. 8 and dumped 30 inches of snow on some parts of eastern Long Island.
It left hundreds of motorists, who were commuting home as the storm rapidly picked up intensity, stranded in their vehicles on the Long Island Expressway and other roads for more than 12 hours.
Federal funding will be available to state and local governments for emergency work on damaged facilities.
