Marist Poll: Obama To Leave Office With Highest Approval Rating In 7 Years
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- As President Barack Obama's presidency enters its final weeks, his national approval rating is stronger than ever -- with 55 percent of registered voters saying they approved of Obama's performance, according to a recent poll from McClatchy-Marist.

This new rating documents a four percent jump from 51 percent in November, and an all-time high for the outgoing president since Summer 2009.
When broken up among demographics, 92 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of independent voters said they approved of Obama's job as president. Only 15 percent of Republicans expressed approval for Obama.
Overall, 42 percent of registered voters expressed disapproval of Obama, with 3 percent saying they were unsure.
According to the poll, the highest job approval rating Obama ever received throughout his presidency was in April 2009, when voter approval measured at 56 percent.
McClatchy-Marist poll numbers document Obama's lowest approval ratings in Sept. 2011 at 39 percent. A separate CBS poll marked Obama a lower approval rating, at 37 percent, in Sept. 2013.
The newest Marist-McClatchy poll was conducted from Dec. 1 to Dec. 9 and collected information from 1,005 participants ages 18 years or older nationwide.
