NYU Scuttles Construction Plans In Greenwich Village
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- New York University is giving up on building a controversial new tower in Greenwich Village.
The plan was to add a 38-story building to a landmark three-tower plaza, designed by world-famous architect I.M. Pei.
The tower would include a 240-room hotel.
Neighbors and preservationists opposed it. Now, so does Mr. Pei.
The 93 year-old architect sent a letter to the university, saying he'd prefer another site.
NYU said it will file plans to build at LaGuardia Place and Bleeker Street.
