NYPD: Woman Killed By Nassau County Bus In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A woman is dead after being hit by a Nassau County bus on Saturday night.
The accident happened in Jamaica, Queens around 8 p.m. as the woman was crossing Merrick Boulevard, police said.
She was struck by a Nassau Inter-County Express Bus. Maleka Begum, 54, had been shopping with her daughter when she was hit.
Begum was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Begum's family and friends gathered at the scene of the accident on Saturday night to mourn her loss, the Daily News reported. She was described as a kindhearted woman and had recently announced plans to return to her native Bangladesh.
The driver of the bus will not be charged.
