NYPD: 145th Street Station Turnstile Jumper Had Loaded Semi-Automatic Handgun

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man stopped by police for jumping a subway turnstile was carrying a loaded semi-automatic handgun, according to the NYPD.

Officers Trevor Wisz and Christian Serpico stopped the 22-year-old man after observing him jump the turnstile at the 145th Street station in Manhattan Wednesday night, police said.

After conducting a warrant check police said the officers discovered the suspect, identified as Otha Williams of the Bronx, was a repeat transit offender. As they placed him under arrest, police said the officers discovered the loaded Walthers .380 caliber handgun.

Williams faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon, theft of service, criminal trespass, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
