NYPD Unveils J'Ouvert Festival Security Measures
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The NYPD released detailed security measures Wednesday for the annual J'Ouvert Festival and West Indian Day parade.
This year's celebrations take place this Monday, Labor Day, in Crown Heights in Brooklyn.
J'Ouvert starts at 6 a.m. with the parade kicking off a few hours later at 11 a.m.
The annual event celebrates the history, culture, music, food and people from myriad Caribbean countries.

It's expected to attract more than a million people.
The J'Ouvert route will proceed south on Flatbush Avenue, east on Empire Boulevard, and south on Nostrand Avenue to finish at Rutland Road. The West Indian Day Parade starts at noon and will head west on Eastern Parkway from Ralph Avenue to Grand Army Plaza.
The J'Ouvert Formation area will be located at Flatbush Avenue from Grand Army Plaza to Empire Boulevard and will close to the general public Sunday evening, Sept. 1.
Several thousand uniformed NYPD officers will be working the parade, along with additional special teams. Participants and spectators will be screened for weapons and alcohol at 13 entry points, which will be lit by more than 300 light towers. Additional security cameras will also be placed around the route, which will also be lined with garbage trucks filled with sand, NYPD vehicles, and barriers.
