NYPD: Third Rail Electrocutes Brooklyn Man Walking On G Train Tracks
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 30-year-old man was electrocuted by a third rail as he walked along subway tracks in Brooklyn early Monday morning.
Matthew Zeno and his friend were walking north on the southbound G line roadbed at the Union Avenue and Broadway station around 3:10 a.m. when he inadvertently made contact with the third rail and was electrocuted, police said.
A published report in the New York Post said Zeno was urinating on the third rail at the time.
Officers responded to the scene and found Zeno unconscious and unresponsive. He later died at Woodhull Hospital.
His 26-year-old friend, who has not been identified, sustained a less severe electric shock when he tried to help Zeno and is listed in stabled condition at Woodhull Hospital, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
