NYPD Sergeant, Political Relative, Arrested On Vandalism Charges
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - A New York City police sergeant from a political family has been arrested on charges of vandalizing her boyfriend's car.
Police say Sgt. Damaris Diaz was arrested Saturday on criminal mischief and aggravated harassment charges. She's the daughter of state Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. and the sister of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
Attempts to reach the 43-year-old sergeant and her family weren't immediately successful Sunday. She declined to comment as she left a Bronx court Saturday night.
Police said Diaz keyed her boyfriend's car on Friday after sending him angry text messages while she was off-duty.
She has been an NYPD officer since 1993. Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins says she has no problems on her record.
