NYPD Seeks 2 Men In Armed Robbery At Brooklyn Jewelry Store

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The hunt is on for two men wanted in an armed robbery at a Brooklyn jewelry store.

The suspects were wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks when they walked into the store on Coney Island Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, CBS2's Steve Langford reported Friday.

On surveillance video released by the NYPD, one man is seen pulling a gun while the other uses a hammer to smash his way to fortune, grabbing every bit of jewelry he can get his hands on. All of this is happening while shocked customers and employees stand with their hands in the air.

The suspects made off with merchandise worth about $250,000, police said.

The midday heist upset neighboring merchants.

"I think we should get more protection just like other neighborhoods because we got a lot of jewelry stores," Sheepshead Bay resident Afzal Aslam said.

"This is a really nice neighborhood...it's not supposed to happen like this," local merchant Khan Farooq added.

Neighbors told Langford the store did re-open following Wednesday's robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips to the Crime Stoppers' website or by texting their tips to CRIMES (274637), then enter TIP577.
