NYPD Official To Become Nassau County Police Commissioner
MELVILLE, N.Y. (AP) -- A commanding officer of the New York City Police Department has been selected to run a suburban police department.
Newsday reported Saturday that Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano had selected Thomas V. Dale to serve as police commissioner. Dale has been the NYPD's chief of personnel.
He is expected to take command on Jan. 2, pending legislative approval.
Mangano says the Long Island county will benefit from a "fresh look" at its operations after a series of problems in the department. A state inspector general report released earlier this month found chronic systemic failures at the county's crime lab.
Dale is a resident of Oyster Bay Town. He told the newspaper he will focus on keeping crime rates low in the county.
