NYPD Officer Stabbed In The Brain Promoted To Detective
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A New York City police officer who survived a stab wound to the brain last year has been promoted to detective.
Officer Eder Loor received a standing ovation from colleagues and family members as walked slowly across the stage to receive his promotion on Friday.
"His courage reflects proudly on every member of this department," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said as he presented Loor with the new rank.

Loor was stabbed in the head on April 17, 2012 while responding to a call of an emotionally disturbed person, who authorities identified as Terrence Hale, in East Harlem.

Loor and his partner stopped Hale to ask him some questions when he suddenly pulled a knife and stabbed the officer in his left temple, police said.
Loor, who is also a trained EMT, was able to pull the knife out of his head before collapsing on the sidewalk.
Doctors said the knife penetrated his temple and went through his skull and into his brain, but narrowly missed vital areas and a main artery.
"His survival has been called a miracle," Kelly said. "We know that it is due, most of all, to his remarkable strength and fortitude."
The father of two is still in rehab but hopes to return to active duty.
Hale is charged with attempted aggravated murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Police said Hale has a history of mental problems and was previously arrested in 2002 for robbery and in 2006 for assault.
