Subway Fare Evader In Far More Serious Trouble After Allegedly Choking Cop
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man already under arrest got into far more serious trouble Monday, after he allegedly pinned and choked a police officer who was trying to take him into custody for evading the fare at the 42nd Street-Port Authority subway station.
Around 10 a.m., officers at the station, which is served by the A, C and E lines, were arresting Daniel Walker, 19, for fare evasion. As police tried to arrest Walker, he began to resist and an officer radioed for backup.
When other officers arrived, they found Walker on top of the arresting officer and apparently choking him, police said.
The responding officers took Walker, of 128 Lenox Ave., into custody. He was charged with assault, theft of service by fare evasion, resisting arrest, and criminal trespass.
The officer was taken to New York Presbyterian-Cornell Hospital in serious, but stable, condition.
