NYPD Officer Credited With Saving Baby Boy's Life
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A New York City police officer was credited Monday with saving the life of a 1-year-old boy who was found unconscious in a Washington Heights clothing store.
Around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, police received a call of an unconscious baby at the Rainbow clothing store at 610 W. 181st St. Upon arriving, Officer Thomas Dunn stepped out of his squad car to find a firefighter holding the limp baby in his arms.
Dunn, who also has been an emergency medical technician for about 10 years, took the boy and instantly began to search for vital signs or breathing. He found none.
A small pinch to the boy's thigh also did not get a response.
Dunn then placed the child on the trunk of his squad car, and gave him two chest compressions and three rescue breaths. The child began gasping for air and breathing again just as an ambulance pulled up.
The child, who had been with a babysitter, was taken to NewYork Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center. He was released later Sunday to his mother, and was last reported to be doing well.
