NYPD Takes Gun, Badge From Officer In Improper CPR Training Probe
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An NYPD officer has been stripped of her gun and badge amid a probe into whether officers were improperly trained on CPR.
Officer Melissa Brown was an instructor in the training division and was among those responsible for teaching CPR at the academy. The NYPD said she will be reassigned, CBS2 reported.
The probe came after officers testified in a manslaughter trial of a rookie police officer that they weren't given proper CPR training and didn't help a gravely wounded man because they didn't feel they were qualified.
Officer Peter Liang was found guilty of manslaughter and official misconduct in the fatal shooting of Akai Gurley's death in the Pink Houses in East New York, Brooklyn, and was terminated from the police force.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton launched the probe after hearing about the testimony. He said the training is highly important.
The investigation continues.
