De Blasio Says NYPD 'More Than Ready' For NYC Marathon, Election Day
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is going to have a busy few days as it prepares for this weekend's TCS New York City Marathon and next Tuesday's election.
NYPD Chief of Department Carlos Gomez said his officers will be out in force for Sunday's race, where 50,000 runners and upwards of 2 million spectators are expected.

"They number in the thousands; I don't like to give specific numbers along the route, but there will also be officers in plainclothes mixing in," Gomez said. "We'll go over scenarios that are designed to maybe disrupt the event and how would we react."
On Election Day, there will be at least one uniformed officer at each of the 1,205 polling sites citywide to make sure that all goes smoothly.
"Any time you enter a polling site there will be at least one if not more police officers at that site, we've done this every year," Chief of Patrol Terence Monahan said.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said there will be zero tolerance for any voter intimidation.
"Obviously our officers are prepared if there is any systematic effort to disrupt it," de Blasio said.
With both candidates expected in New York City, de Blasio said the NYPD is closely coordinating with the Secret Service. He calls it a very special and unusual night in the city.
"I feel like the NYPD is more than ready," de Blasio said.
