NYPD: Man Wearing Jets Jersey Completes 1 Of 5 Bank Robbery Attempts For Undisclosed Cash
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- This probably isn't the type of attention the Jets are looking for.
A bank robber, clad in a green Gang Green jersey, attempted to rob five different banks in Midtown on Friday, failing on his first four attempts before finally succeeding, the NYPD said.
He was still at large Friday. No weapon was displayed in any of the incidents, police said.
Just before 1 p.m., a 25-year-old white male wearing a green Jets jersey under a brown leather jacket walked into Chase Bank at 2251 Broadway and demanded cash from the teller, police said. The teller refused and the man fled empty handed.
He then tried to rob the Chase Bank at 1860 Broadway, a Capital One Bank on West 57th Street and a Bank of America, also on West 57th over the next 45 minutes, but was unsuccessful, police said.
However, just after 2 p.m. the same man passed a note demanding money to a teller inside the Capitol One Bank at 404 Fifth Ave., and the teller complied. The suspect escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
