NYPD: Man Wanted For Questioning In Petroleum Jelly Burglaries

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD says they want to question a man in connection with a string of burglaries in Manhattan.

Police say they are looking for 40-year-old Luis Gonzalez in the so-called petroleum jelly burglaries.

Cops say the 14 incidents all took place in Hamilton Heights, West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood between Sept. 4 and March 8 of last year.

In each burglary, police say the suspect rubs petroleum jelly on the apartment door peepholes of his victims so they can't identify him.

Authorities said the suspect removed items, including laptops, jewelry, cellphones, iPods, televisions, cigarettes and even bicentennial coins.

Police said he carries a can and wears a Yankees baseball cap and dark glasses.

Anyone with information should call police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
