NYPD ESU Officers Talk Man Down From Ledge Of Rockefeller Center Deck
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police say a man is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation after he tried to jump from the observation deck at Rockefeller Center.
It happened around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say 23-year-old Jorge Ruiz of Las Vegas climbed over a 5-foot-high glass partition of the Top of the Rock Observation Deck and then sat on the ledge of a concrete pillar threatening to jump.
Officers from the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit climbed out onto the ledge and talked Ruiz down after about 20 minutes.
No one was injured but Ruiz was taken to Bellevue Hospital for psychiatric observation.
Police say Ruiz told them he was upset over a book he wrote that wasn't going to be published.
