The Frying Pan is a salvaged ship docked off the coast of the West Side, attached to Pier 66 Maritime with its bar and grill. For the Fourth, you can hang out for free during the day, and they are selling $25 tickets to stay through the evening festivities which means being up close and personal with the firework barges.
For those who want to stay further up the Hudson River, there's also the 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe where they'll be serving up its notoriously good hamburger, the classic summertime meal. Though you'll be further north than the barges, you'll be able to relax without the crowds
If it is burgers you're after while still having a chance to get onto the West Side Highway, you'll want to stop by Corner Bistro for an early dinner. The West Village standby is home to one of the best burgers in the city, and a quick walk to the evening show.
For those scrambling at the last minute to find a good spot, head to the rooftop bar Jimmy at The James Hotel. They aren't taking reservations for the Fourth meaning it's open to everyone, and will have a spectacular view of the fireworks with an indoor space in case the weather turns. They'll be serving their regular menu which includes pretzel crab cakes, lobster dumplings, and of course, burgers.
