Just because a drink is labeled a "fruit smoothie" doesn't make it healthy. Except if you're at Blossom Du Jour, the all-vegan and vegetarian spot with three New York City outposts (Chelsea, Midtown West and the Upper West Side). All the shakes and smoothies here are made with healthy and sometimes unusual ingredients (spinach, spirulina, flax meal, pea protein and kale). We like the Rainbow Smoothie - raspberries, blueberries, bananas and orange juice.
Liquiteria's smoothies are more like delicious liquid dinners designed to detoxify and rejuvenate. Try the heavenly Peaches and Dream -- a tasty delight of peaches, strawberries, banana and cinnamon with aloe vera. The East Village juice bar is also known for the Royal Flush (aloe vera, apple, golden pineapple, ginger, pear, and an ingredient they call "liver kidney lymph detox"), and All Greens (kale, romaine, parsley, celery, spinach, and cucumber), and coconut water.
Patrons here may gripe that the goods are pricey -- but sometimes it's worth it to be good to yourself. Organic Avenue promotes the healing qualities of plant-based foods. Try their Chai LOVE* smoothie for something distinctively divine -- a blend of cashews, hemp seeds and dates spiced with a blend of cardamom, vanilla cinnamon and other spices.
D'Vida offers a wide assortment of fresh fruit smoothies, liquid meals to satisfy your thirst. Try their Tower of Power--a tasty trio of Peanut Butter, Banana and Oats with your favorite protein supplement.
The folks behind Juice Press believe that "it's what you leave out from your diet that leads to optimal health." So the juices on offer don't have additives or preservatives or processed ingredients. Instead, they're raw, fresh, and yummy, never frozen, never pasteurized, always organic. Drink Your Salad includes beet, tomato, celery, parsley, kale, carrot, spinach, water, lemon, and "pinches" of sea salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne powder, while $*#%ing Genius has aloe, vegan dha omega oil, ginkgo brain formula, coconut oil, and filtered water.
Fuel Grill is a little island of bliss in Hell's Kitchen. When your mouth meets their Mocha Blast, the first word that comes to mind is Mmmmm.
Formerly named "Uptown Juice Bar," this friendly neighborhood spot not only serves fresh-pressed juices and smoothies at low prices, but also the best vegan soul food in all of Harlem. Their Green Juice is a combination of celery, parsley, spinach, cucumber, broccoli, watercress. Or hey, there's always the honey-barbecued tofu.
Antioxidants rule here. In addition to fresh-pressed juices, salads, sandwiches and baked goods, look for smoothies with fresh berries, bananas and hemp protein. Juicing since 1999, Juice Generation relies on locally grown, pesticide-free produce to craft made-to-order concoctions such as Dr. Bombay (cinnamon, vitamin C, pear, zinc, apple, and echinacea) and Garden Green Coco (banana, spinach, kale, and a whole coconut). Or try their yummy Coco Acai--made with their own organic coconut soy milk.
This tiny establishment, sandwiched in between a pizza place and a souvenir shop, serves up some of the most refreshing drinks in the city. Try their Amazing Green energy smoothie--Pineapple, Banana with Spirulina.
