NYC Raising Money To Save Summer Jobs For Youths
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- With the end of the school year just around the corner, the Bloomberg administration is trying to raise private money so that thousands of city kids can have summer jobs.
The Summer Youth Employment Program gives young people from 14 to 24 a chance to work for up to seven weeks during the summer with participating museums, libraries, parks or local businesses.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the usual funding for the program was lost in a state budget cut and because of the loss of federal stimulus.
Companies like American Airlines, the Empire State Building and Verizon are among those participating this year. So far, 18 groups have already signed up.
More than 80,000 young people have applied for online for the program so far.
Bloomberg says private gifts are also accepted. It costs $1,500 to offer a child a job for seven weeks, starting July 5.
