NYC Woman Convicted Of Murdering Newborn

NEW YORK (AP) -- A woman has been convicted of smothering her newborn baby who was found on a back porch in a plastic bag.

A Brooklyn jury delivered the verdict Friday against 27-year-old Laura Sergio.

She faces up to 25 years in prison for her first-degree manslaughter conviction. Sentencing is Nov. 12.

Sergio was admitted to a hospital in April 2007 for bleeding. Doctors determined she had just given birth and later found the newborn's body on the back porch. The baby had been smothered.

Sergio's attorney didn't immediately return a telephone message on Friday.
