2 Suspects Charged After Tourist Punched In Face At SI Ferry Terminal
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man and woman have been charged in an attack on a visitor from Arkansas who refused to buy apparently fake tickets to the Statue of Liberty.
Robert Anderson, 25, and Teresa Thorson, 19, were charged with felony assault, police sources told CBS2. Anderson had been on probation until 2018 for burglary and has 10 prior arrests, sources said.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon in front of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, at 4 South St. in Lower Manhattan.
Authorities said the 33-year-old victim and his family were approached by a woman who said she was selling tickets to the attraction. When the tourist said he wasn't interested, a man came up and punched him in the face.
The victim, who was visiting from Arkansas, fell back and hit the sidewalk, suffering a fractured skull, sources said.
Witness Kenny Pragl captured a photo of the scene outside the ferry terminal in the snow on Monday, with the victim on the ground.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center for treatment, CBS2 reported.
