NYC Opens First Section Of East River Waterfront Esplanade
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other elected officials opened the first section of the city's new East River Waterfront Esplanade Thursday.
The first phase of the project -- which runs from Wall Street to Maiden Lane -- is part of a $165 million endeavor to revitalize a two-mile stretch between Battery Park and the Manhattan Bridge.
"The new East River Waterfront Esplanade is the newest jewel on New York City's magnificent Harbor," Bloomberg said Thursday.

At the newly unveiled section, which features tables and benches, visitors can eat, read, use their laptop or simply take in the magnificent views of the harbor.
The esplanade will be open to the public from 6 a.m. to midnight. It even offers a dog park featuring a climbing bridge, sand pit and splash pad.
