NYC May Ban Tractor Trailers On Residential Streets
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- The New York City Council is cracking down on truck drivers.
The Council's Transportation Committee has proposed new legislation that would ban tractor trailors from parking on residential streets.
People living in New York City, particularly The Bronx, have long complained about the trucks, saying they take away limited parking spaces and create a safety hazard.
"They sit in their cars, they let the motors running, they throw garbage out of their windows, not on my block but that's what they've been doing. I caught them in the act many times," said Councilman James Vacca (D-The Bronx).
The bill would increase fines to $250 for the first offense and $500 for each subsequent offense in a six-month period.
