Icepick Robbery Suspect Charged In 2 More Stickups
NEW YORK (AP) -- A parolee already accused of wielding an ice pick in a series of robberies in New York City elevators has been charged with two more similar muggings.
John Martinez is being held without bail after being arraigned Monday on charges of robbing two women in elevators in a Bronx apartment complex on Nov. 14. Bronx prosecutors say he was armed with a knife in one holdup and an ice pick in the other. Prosecutors say security cameras recorded both incidents.
Martinez was charged earlier this month with three muggings in elevators in a Manhattan apartment complex. No victims were hurt.
Martinez' lawyers didn't immediately return calls Monday.
The 39-year-old was arrested on a parole-violation warrant earlier this month in Cliffside Park, N.J.
